At Ross Medical Hair Restoration in La Jolla, we use a very simple formula to calculate the cost of hair transplant surgery. Our procedures cost $3 per graft, period. Thus, the total cost for surgery is $3 X (# scheduled grafts). A 1,000 graft hair transplant costs a grand total of $3,000; a 1,500 graft procedure costs $4,500, etc. We feel compelled to emphasize this point, as many hair restoration clinics in San Diego use confusing calculations for their prices. An example is the stair-stepped fee structure, in which the per-graft costs are reduced for very large hair replacement procedures (but only on a portion of the total grafts). Prices for smaller surgical hair restoration sessions traditionally range from $6-$8 per graft and are sometimes reduced to the $4-$6 per graft range for larger sessions.
The RMHRI hair transplant procedure also contains no hidden costs. Some examples of hidden costs often associated with hair restoration procedures are: operating room/surgical suite fees, laboratory fees, biohazard waste fees, anesthesia fees, and fees for additional grafts. As stated, we try to be much more upfront with our hair transplant costs. The $3 per graft charge is all-inclusive. We offer you a complimentary lunch, provide you with post-operative medications, and validate your parking. We almost always end up with additional grafts beyond our target number, and we place these follicles free of charge. On the very rare occurrence when we do not quite reach our pre-operative target graft number (less than 1% of our procedures, and usually only during repairs of previous outdated hair transplants), we credit you back the prorated difference.
Our average size hair transplant procedure is approximately 1,400 to 1,500 grafts. We require a minimum procedure size of 600 grafts and/or a minimum cost of $1,800. This base fee is well below the industry standard, which is often set at or near a $3,000 minimum. The largest hair replacement procedure we will perform in one day is 3,200 grafts.
Once the decision has been made to schedule a hair transplant procedure, we require a $500 deposit to reserve the surgery date. This deposit serves as a credit toward the overall price of the hair transplant procedure and is fully refundable with a 72-business hour notification prior to rescheduling or canceling the appointment. The remaining balance is payable on the procedure date. For your convenience, we accept most forms of payment. We accept cash, cashiers checks, and money orders. We accept personal checks for the procedure deposit, but not for the actual hair restoration surgery unless the total amount is paid in full 2 weeks prior to surgery. We also accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.
As an alternative, we offer financing through Capital One Healthcare Finance. This is an independent 3rd party, and as such, they maintain their own criteria for payment approval (mostly based on credit scores). Their payment plans range from 18 months to 5 years with interest rates ranging from 1.99% to an unsightly 23.99%, based on credit standing.
